Project Role: Advisory Board Member
Professional Role: Social Value and Performance Manager, SCAPE
SCAPE has a proud record of delivering social value in the communities we support. Our organisational policies reflect the criticality of defining the value of construction projects in wider terms than simple cost. Our approach seeks to drive delivery of positive outcomes in local communities to support a resilient, green and local economic recovery. All of our direct award frameworks are designed to achieve value for money, efficiency, sustainability and local economic impact on every project. Evaluation of social, local and environmental value is built into the procurement of our frameworks and performance managed throughout delivery. The construction sector is facing an increasing skills shortage, which is why it is more important than ever to ensure it is a welcoming environment offering attractive careers. Our delivery partners share our ethos and we are all eager to create a sector that is inclusive and accessible to all, which is why SCAPE is supporting this research.
As Social Value and Performance Manager for SCAPE, I lead on the development and delivery of the social value strategy, with responsibility for promoting and ensuring compliance within SCAPE. For our built environment frameworks, I develop relevant and appropriate performance measures, to meet client needs, drive improvements in the construction industry and encourage use of local supply chains and SMEs. I also lead working groups focusing on increasing opportunities for Social Enterprises and a proactive approach to Ethical Labour. Fairness, inclusion and respect are demonstrated through implementation and promotion of the real Living Wage and prompt payment policies. I represent SCAPE as a member of the National Social Value Taskforce, contributing to the development of the National Themes, Outcomes and Measures (TOMS), to capture and report social value consistently.
